Education is a cornerstone in Kearney's solid foundation. A community of life-long learners, over 23% have graduated from college; and, the four year high school graduation rate exceeds 92%. Parents find comfort in a public education system that provides award winning results in a safe, nurturing environment while private schools offer a variety of choices in elementary through high school programs. Post secondary programs are available at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and specialized courses are offered by Central Community College.

Education is at the top of Kearney's priority list, and has been since the villiage blacksmith defined the limits of technology. Area public and private schools take pride in their record of producing high achieving student and innovative Technology labs, Tech-Prep and College-Prep curriculums provide stimulating activities for all students.

Telecommunications further enriches the classrom experience by expanding the choice of subjects through distance learning, and connecting distant classrooms with 2-way video feeds for joint projects. Teachers routinely use the Internet to introduce students to a world outside of the classroom, like the National Archives, NASA, or the National Art Collection.
